TEACHER
My first love is teaching dance which I have been doing since the age of 15. I began (as most of us do) by helping out at the dance school I was training at before moving on to becoming a teacher's assistant at a local ballet school. During that time, I worked towards gaining my teaching qualifications. My dream from a young age had been to create my own school of performing arts and so, after qualifying in September 2000, I opened the Alexandra School of Performing Arts just a month later. 23 years later, it is still going strong!
Ethos
Whatever style of dance I am teaching, whatever age group or ability of the dancers, I always aim to provide a comfortable, safe and enjoyable environment that allows participants to reach their full potential. I encourage individuality, confidence and independence. With my guiding and encouragement, I expect my dancers to take responsibility for their personal progress, organisation and independent research.
Dance and Vocal Style
My favourite styles of dance to teach are ballet, jazz, tap, musical theatre and commercial. Other the years I have also taught classes and workshops in contemporary, lyrical, Bollywood and Irish dance. I can also teach basic combos in various ballroom and latin american dances. I have recently begun teaching acro dance as well and find this highly enjoyable.I am also available as a private vocal coach or to teach group classes in acting through song.
Teaching Style
I am an enthusiastic, compassionate and fun-but strict teacher. I am loud and encouraging and extremely hands-on. I prefer to demonstrate both technique and performance to my students alongside vocal instruction and often use my passion and enthusiasm to encourage, praise and inspire my dancers. My classes are fast-paced, fun and imaginative whilst still being structured and disciplined. I believe that my years of experience have ensured that I can create this happy balance between fun and professionalism
Classes
I teach all classes weekly at my studio (the Alexandra School of Performing Arts) and mid-weekly at various Junior schools in Woodford and Leytonstone. I have also facillitated holiday/one-off workshops for various clients. Adult dancercise classes are also something that I enjoy to teach as it brings my love of dance in to the fitness world.
